Best Free Fax App for iPhone in 2026

Free fax apps at a glance

Every "free" fax service subsidises your send in some way. The table below shows exactly how each one limits you.

Page limits reflect each vendor's publicly stated free tier as of April 2026.

FaxZero: 3 free pages per fax

Best for: A single short document with no recurring need.

FaxZero is the most generous free option. You can send 3 pages plus a cover sheet, up to 5 faxes per day, to most US and Canadian fax numbers. The cover page carries a third-party sponsor ad.

Pros

• No signup required to send
• Three pages is enough for most one-off documents
• Works from the iPhone browser without installing an app

Cons

• Every free fax ships with an ad cover page
• No delivery confirmation on the free tier
• Zero HIPAA compliance
• Occasional long queues during peak hours

FaxZero makes sense for a single IRS form you will never send again. For anything time-sensitive or medical, skip it.

FaxBurner: 5 inbound pages lifetime

Best for: Receiving one or two one-time documents.

FaxBurner assigns you a temporary US fax number on signup. You can receive up to 5 pages for free across the lifetime of your account. The temporary number expires after 24 hours of inactivity unless you upgrade.

Pros

• Temporary fax number in seconds
• Good for receiving a short one-off document

Cons

• Only 5 free pages total, ever
• Number disappears on inactivity
• Sending on free tier is extremely limited
• Paid upgrade jumps to $8.95/month

If you just need to receive a signed form once, FaxBurner works. For anything long-term, see our guide on how to receive a fax online.

GotFreeFax: 2 free pages

Best for: A single-page document.

GotFreeFax is the barest-bones option. 2 pages per send, 2 sends per day, sponsor cover page attached. No account needed, no iPhone app. It works through the Safari browser.

Pros

• Completely free with no signup
• Works from any browser

Cons

• Two-page limit is too tight for most real documents
• No delivery receipt
• No HIPAA
• Daily usage cap

Use GotFreeFax only for genuine emergencies when you need to dispatch a single page immediately.

HelloFax free tier: 5 pages one-time

Best for: One-time trial of a paid service.

HelloFax (by Dropbox) gives new accounts 5 free pages. After that, you must upgrade to a monthly plan. It is essentially a trial disguised as a free tier.

Pros

• Clean, professional interface
• Integrates with Dropbox storage

Cons

• Five pages and you are done, forever
• Requires account creation with email verification
• Upgrade pricing starts at $7.99/month

If you are shopping for a paid solution, testing HelloFax with 10 pages is reasonable. Otherwise, the paid jump is larger than Faxend Basic.

The cheapest paid alternative: Faxend Basic at $9.99

If free pages fall short, the cheapest paid option on the market is Faxend Basic at $9.99 for up to 10 pages. That price includes:

• No subscription or recurring charge
• No ad cover page attached to your document
• AES-256 encryption end-to-end
• HIPAA-compliant transmission
• Delivery receipt on every send
• 30-day archive access

Compare that to FaxZero's 3 ad-laden free pages or HelloFax's $7.99 monthly commitment. For most one-off senders, $9.99 with zero strings attached is the better deal.

When free is genuinely enough

Free fax apps have a legitimate niche. Pick free if all of these are true:

• You fax once a year at most
• Your document fits in 2–3 pages
• You do not need HIPAA compliance
• You do not mind a sponsor cover page
• You accept no delivery confirmation

For anything else, a $9.99 pay-per-fax plan removes every friction point at a cost smaller than a coffee.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a truly free fax app for iPhone?

Yes, but all free options cap usage. FaxZero limits you to 3 pages per fax with a sponsor page attached. FaxBurner gives 5 inbound pages lifetime. Free tiers suit one-off sends only.

Are free fax apps safe for medical or legal documents?

Generally no. Free apps rarely offer HIPAA compliance or sign Business Associate Agreements. For sensitive documents use a paid HIPAA-ready service like Faxend.

Why do free fax apps add cover pages or ads?

The fax gateway is paid infrastructure. Free services subsidise your fax by printing a sponsor cover page or showing in-app ads.

Can I send more than 3 pages for free?

Not usually. Most free tiers cap at 3–10 pages per transmission. FaxZero lets you send up to 3 faxes per day, each with 3 pages. Beyond that, a $9.99 pay-per-fax plan becomes cheaper than any ad-subsidised free service.

What is the cheapest paid fax app for iPhone?

Faxend at $9.99 per fax (10 pages) is the cheapest paid option with no subscription. Standard monthly plans start at $9.99 across providers.

Do free fax apps work in 2026?

Yes. FaxZero, HelloFax free tier, and GotFreeFax still operate. Expect ads, delays, and limits. For reliable business use, a low-cost paid plan is worth the upgrade.
