Faxend MCP Server: Send Faxes From Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor
The Faxend MCP server lets an AI assistant send a fax for you. Connect it once (Claude and ChatGPT: paste the server URL and sign in to Faxend; Cursor and other tools: an API key), then ask in plain words: the assistant sends the PDF to the fax number, follows the delivery and tells you how many pages you have left. Faxes use the pages on your Faxend plan.
Server URL
https://faxend.com/mcpTransport: Streamable HTTP. Auth: Claude and ChatGPT connect with just this URL: you sign in to Faxend and click Allow (OAuth 2.1). Cursor, Claude Code and other tools can send a Faxend API key as Authorization: Bearer fxk_....

What the Faxend MCP server does
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. The Faxend MCP server gives your assistant four tools that work on your own Faxend account:
- Send a fax to any fax number from a PDF, given as a public https link or as the file itself. An optional cover note becomes a cover page.
- Check delivery of a fax: sending, delivered or failed, with the reason.
- List recent faxes sent from your account, from the website, the Chrome extension or an assistant.
- Show remaining pages on your Faxend plans.
The fax goes out over the same network and the same checks as a fax sent on faxend.com: the number is validated first, and if the receiving machine is busy, does not answer or declines the fax, the pages go back to your plan.
Example prompts
- "Fax this signed PDF to +1 212 555 0100 and tell me when it is delivered."
- "Send https://example.com/forms/claim.pdf to the fax number 1-800-555-0199 with a cover note: Attn: Claims department, policy 48213."
- "How many fax pages do I have left on Faxend?"
- "Did my last three faxes go through? If one failed, why?"
A good assistant repeats the number and the document back to you before it calls send_fax. Faxes cannot be recalled once they are sent, so check the number.
Connect Claude
claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps (custom connector)
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
- Name:
Faxend. Remote MCP server URL:https://faxend.com/mcp - Leave the advanced OAuth fields empty and click Add, then Connect. A Faxend window opens: sign in with the email or Google account of your Faxend plan and click Allow. You can untick "Send faxes" to give read-only access.
- In a chat, turn Faxend on from the tools menu and ask Claude to send a fax. Connectors you add on claude.ai also show up in Claude Desktop and the mobile apps.
On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add the connector for the organization first.
Claude Code
Add the server, then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose Faxend to sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http faxend https://faxend.com/mcpOr use an API key instead of signing in:
claude mcp add --transport http faxend https://faxend.com/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer fxk_your_key"Connect ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
- Back in Apps & Connectors, choose Create. Name:
Faxend. MCP server URL:Authentication: OAuth.https://faxend.com/mcp - Confirm that you trust the connector and click Create. A Faxend window opens: sign in and click Allow.
- In a new chat, pick Developer mode from the tools menu, enable Faxend and ask ChatGPT to send the fax. ChatGPT asks you to confirm before it runs
send_fax.
Developer mode is available on the ChatGPT plans that include it; the menu names can differ slightly between versions.
Set up with a key in the URL? Older setups used https://faxend.com/mcp?key=fxk_.... It still works for now, but it is deprecated: a URL with a key in it is easy to leak. Remove that connector, add https://faxend.com/mcp again with OAuth, and revoke the old key on API keys.
Connect Cursor
Add Faxend to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json in one project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"faxend": {
"url": "https://faxend.com/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer fxk_your_key"
}
}
}
}Open Cursor Settings, then MCP, and check that Faxend shows four tools. Other MCP clients (Windsurf, VS Code, Cline and others) work the same way: server URL https://faxend.com/mcp with this header:
Authorization: Bearer fxk_your_keyAPI keys (Cursor, Claude Code, other tools)
Claude and ChatGPT don't need a key: they connect with OAuth. Tools that take a header instead of a sign-in use a Faxend API key:
Sign in on faxend.com
Sign in with the email or Google account you used to buy your Faxend plan, so the key can use its pages.
Open API keys
Go to faxend.com/api-keys (also in the account menu), give the key a name such as "Claude", and click Create key.
Copy it now
The key starts with fxk_ and is shown only once. Store it like a password. You can revoke it on the same page at any time; a revoked key stops working at once.
Tools reference
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
send_fax | to (fax number with country code), document (https URL of a PDF, or the PDF base64-encoded), optional cover_note (up to 2,000 characters, adds a cover page). PDF only, up to 20 MB and 100 pages. Returns fax_id and status "sending". |
get_fax_status | fax_id. Returns the phase (sending, delivered, failed), pages, the reason for a failure and whether the pages were refunded. |
list_recent_faxes | Optional limit (1 to 20, default 10). Newest first. |
get_remaining_pages | Pages left on each of your Faxend plans and in total. |
Limits per API key or connected app: 120 requests a minute and 20 faxes an hour.
What it costs
The MCP server itself is included with Faxend. Each fax uses pages from your Faxend plan, exactly like a fax sent on the website: one page per fax page, and a cover page counts as one page. A fax is charged to one plan, so it has to fit in that plan's remaining pages.
Plans and pages can't be bought through an assistant. If you run out, the assistant tells you and links to Faxend pricing, where you can buy pages or a monthly plan.
Privacy and security
- Your account only. A connection or key only sees and spends your own pages and faxes. With OAuth you approve each app on faxend.com and choose whether it may send faxes; access tokens last one hour. Faxend stores one-way hashes of keys and tokens, never the keys or tokens themselves.
- No document storage. The document is passed to the fax network to send it and is not kept by Faxend afterwards. Fax numbers are shown masked (last 4 digits) in tool results.
- No content in logs. Server logs record which tool ran and whether it worked, not the fax number, the document or the cover note.
- What the assistant sees. The assistant you connect (Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor) sees what you give it in the chat, including the document and number. Their own privacy terms apply to that.
- Disconnect any time on API keys: connected apps and keys are listed there and stop working at once when removed.

FAQs
Do I need a Faxend plan to use the MCP server?
Yes. The tools work with any Faxend web plan linked to your account: the one-time Basic pack or a monthly plan. Without pages, send_fax does not send and says where to buy pages.
Can the assistant send a Word file or a photo?
The connector takes PDF only. Ask the assistant to make a PDF first, or use faxend.com/send, which also takes JPG and PNG.
Can it receive faxes?
Not yet. Faxes sent to your Faxend number arrive in your Faxend inbox and by email.
Does it work with the Faxend iPhone or Android app balance?
No. The MCP server uses the plans you bought on faxend.com. App purchases stay in the app.
